The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th April, 2012 were Rs. 3099.82 crore compared to Rs. 2657.79 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.63 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1827.79 crore during the period from 1st to 10th April 2011 to Rs. 2200.63 crore during 1st to 10th April 2012, showing an increase of 20.40 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th April 2012 were Rs 793.65 crore compared to Rs. 738.47 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.47 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 77.80 crore during this period compared to Rs. 66.90 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 16.29 per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th April 2012 were 230.93 million compared to 219.91 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.01 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during 1st to 10th April, 2012 were 122.58 million and 108.35 million compared to 120.70 million and 99.21 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 1.56 per cent and 9.21 per cent respectively.
