Nirjuli:(Page3 News Network)-The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar addressed colourful cultural extravaganza called “SONABYSS-2012”. The event was organized by the North East Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) at Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh on 1st November, 2012.
Shri Ghatowar said that NERIST was set up by the Government of India and its foundation stone was laid by Shri Giani Zail Singh, the then President of India, on 4th March, 1984. He said, the institute has now emerged as a unique institute of its kind in the country having non-conventional and innovative academic programme in the modular pattern i.e. Base, Diploma and Degree. The Institute was accorded Deemed to be University status in 2005 by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.
The Minister stated that “SONABYSS” is joyously celebrated as the annual cultural festival of NERIST. When all the budding technocrats of North East India, in all their like mindedness and passionate fervor join hands to produce a cultural festival worthy of the NORTH EASTERN REGIONAL INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, the result is “SONABYSS”.
He further added that over a span of more than two decades, SONABYSS has evolved into a unique conglomeration of the colourful culture and traditions of the North Eastern India. The main attractions are the events like “Megataal” – the group dance competition, “Sonabyss idol” – the search for the signing sensation, “Mr. and Ms. Sonabyss” – hunt for the best persona, “Rock Concert”, the ultimate music showdown, and finally the “DJ Night” which compels everyone to step into their dancing shoes and dance away to the beat regardless of time. This year SONABYSS ’12 is marking its Silver Jubilee.
