Air Marshal AK Behl takes over as director general medical services (AIR)

Air Marshal AK Behl assumed the appointment of Director General Medical Services (Air) at Air Headquarters on 01 July 2012. 

An alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, he was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in March 1976. A qualified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, he obtained post doctoral (M Ch) training in Plastic surgery at AFMC, Pune. Thereafter he has undergone special training in Hand and Micro surgery at St Lawrence Hospital, United Kingdom and in Craniofacial and Aesthetic Surgery at Providence Hospital, Michigan, USA. 

He has served as Reconstructive surgeon in numerous service hospitals including AH R&R, Command Hospital AF, CH Central Command and as Professor of Plastic surgery at AFMC Pune. He has also held important executive appointments of Principal Medical Officer, HQ Eastern Air Command and Air Officer Commanding 7 Air Force Hospital, Kanpur, & Commandant of Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. 

He is a Professor of Surgery of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Professor of Plastic surgery of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. He is an examiner for MS Surgery at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and of the National board of examinations. He has 05 publications in international and 45 publications in national journals to his credit. He is also on the editorial board for two text books in surgery. 

For his distinguished services and devotion to duty, he has been awarded with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India in January 2010, Commendation by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) in 2007 and Commendation by GOC-in-C, Southern Command in 2006.
