Planning, Sports, Youth Welfare, Information Technology Minister Dinesh Agarwal has directed the officers concerned to initiate efforts so that big events like Youth Festivals, Asian Games and National Games could be hosted in Uttarakhand.
Chairing the review meeting of his departments, Minister Agarwal instructed the officers to focus on sports and encouraging sportspersons for development of sports in the State. In a bid to host big events, he directed them to look for the possibilities of development of sports infrastructure and hosting of sports events. He said that Sports and Tourism Development could be the partners in organizing such events. He observed that lot of sports potential was present in the State. He maintained that beside regular sports, high altitude sports, water sports, winter sports also needed to be encouraged. He instructed the officers to expedite the constructions of sport stadiums at Haldwani and Dehradun. He stressed on establishing High Altitude Sports Academy and other sports academies, construction and maintenance of sports fields, swimming pool and other sports infrastructure. Mr. Agarwal said that efforts had to be put in to host National Games 2016 in Uttarakhand.
Sports Minister also directed the District Magistrate, SSP, Officers of Nagar Nigam and representatives of undertaking agencies to inspect the construction work of Pavilion Ground and expedite the work.
The meeting was attended by Information Technology VVRC Purushottam, Secretary Sports Ajay Kumar Pradhyot, Deputy Director Sports Ajay Agarwal and other senior officers.
